MARY McGRATH MBE

Mary has worked in the charity sector for thirty years in various roles that have included fundraising, governance, training, strategy and growth. In her most recent role she was CEO of FoodCycle, a charity which provides nourishment to people who are hungry and lonely using surplus food and an army of incredible volunteers. Mary quickly recognised that this model had huge potential to build communities through social dining. Under her tenure, the organisation grew from a handful of projects to 85 weekly community dining events across England and Wales. Mary joined the board of FoodCycle as Chair after she stepped down as CEO in December 2023.
Mary was one of the founding trustees of the charity The Bread and Butter Thing in 2016. This mobile pantry model has grown hugely in its short lifespan, providing the equivalent of a weekly shop to 7000 households per week across the north of England.
She was delighted to be awarded an MBE in the New Years Honours List 2021 for professional and voluntary services to disadvantaged people.
